Superior Performers, New Challenges and Greater Opportunities
Our January "Kick-Off 2010" and February "Marketing" meetings were both an overwhelming success thanks to the efforts of our sponsors, speakers and committee members. A very warm round of thank you's to Michelle Correia-Templin, dal-tile, Stefan Jensen, Motionstrand and Ferguson for jobs well done. Your commitment to our industry is inspirational.
Our San Diego chapter members continue to be recognized as the best of the best by dominating this year's CotY Awards with 13 wins in 25 categories. The regional CotY Awards will be presented at the NARI Spring Meeting "Evening of Excellence" at the Wyndham Phoenix, April 10th. For more information, go to http://www.nari.org/members/resources/.
This El Nino March finds the market place as a whole a little wetter with the promise of "Green" spring looming large. While velocities in new and existing home sales and remodeling activity have fallen short of improvement, leading economic indicators, consumer confidence, job and economic growth overall continue to trend up1. The credit crunch also shows some signs of softening with 40% of community bank CEOs' expressing optimism about the coming year2. To learn more, be sure to join us for NARI's "Show Me the Money" event July 15th.
On the regulation front, the EPA's Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule (RRP) takes effect April 22nd. NARI SD presented its first Certified Renovator Training course this past week to a room full of anxious builders and subcontractors. This proved to be a powerful environment to learn what's important regarding the new Federal regulation. If you have not already done so, be sure to contact Christina Cravalho to reserve your seat in an upcoming class. Certification is good for (5) five years.
NARI's upcoming events are an ongoing source of ideas and information to keep our membership on the leading edge of our industry, meet great people and have some fun. Be sure to mark your calendars:
- Design "What's Hot", March 18
- Annual "Shotgun Blast" Golf Tournament, April 15
- Risk "C.Y.A. - Cover Your Assets", May 20
- NARI Summer Party, June 17
- Finance "Show Me the Money", July 15
- NARI "FIRST EVER" Charity Build Event, September 16
Some real advantages in winning remodeling projects today tend to revolve around the latest products and techniques in design. Please join us March 18th as NARI San Diego presents "Design - What's Hot" at Probuild's Miramar Classic Collections location with honored guest speakers Dawn Davidson and Dr. Denise Homme, ASID.
Dawn Davidson founded Design Line Interiors (DLI) in 1985. Ms. Davidson, an inductee to the Building Industry Association's Hall of Fame, an honor given to only 5 women over the past 35 years, has established herself as a leader and highly respected figure within the building industry. Her legendary "whole design" approach, from entry level to luxury, has propelled many homogenized projects to successful noteworthy status, by tapping into her intuitive and knowledgeable understanding of product design, land use, architecture, landscaping and ultimate lifestyle settings. Her experiences in new construction, renovations and LEED designated projects have been shared at speaking engagements at the Pacific Coast Builders Conference, Building Industry Associations (BIA) of San Diego, Orange County and Los Angeles and the National Builder's Shows.
Denise Homme's professional focus is high end residential interior design but, over her forty years of practice, her projects have been varied and include a number of private and corporate offices, medical and counseling facilities. A proponent of quality interior design education, Denise has also been affiliated with various colleges and universities in the Midwest and California over the past four decades and is presently the Interior Design Program Director at Design Institute of San Diego. Dr. Homme is NCIDQ certified and holds both an MA and a PhD. degree in Interior Design. She is a juror for the NCIDQ exam and a Professional Member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), the Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC) and the International Interior Design Association (IIDA). She is also a Fellow of the Chartered Society of Designers (FCSD) as well as an article reviewer for the Journal of Interior Design (JID) and a site visitor and program reviewer for The Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA).
The Classic Collections 8,000 square foot Super Showroom at Dixieline's Miramar location surrounds the visitor in an environment full of ideas for their home. At the Classic Collections Showroom, you will find the latest in luxury kitchen & bath fixtures, quality hardware, custom cabinetry, all available in a wide variety of styles and finishes. Be sure to examine their dazzling array of styles, finishes and colors, the very best AND newest in Kitchen & Bath Design from around the world!
I am truly grateful for the opportunity to work with such a powerful and driven group of people.
Respectfully,
Ryan Holmes
